On the morning of October 29, 2012 my family and I were evacuated from our New Jersey shore home due to the severe conditions during Superstorm Sandy. Outside our house, a live power line and a neighbor’s tree were draped over our garage and my wife’s car. The situation forced us to relocate to the home of close friends. But there, we—like thousands of families throughout the state—soon lost power.
