Waste-to-Energy company Convanta Energy Corp. is partnering with Steinert US Inc. for metal recycling at Covanta facilities.

Walton, Ky.-based Steinert makes non-ferrous metal recovery systems. Covanta, based in Morristown, N.J., said in a news release that Steinert will provide equipment and expertise to the non-ferrous metal recovery systems at Covanta’s North American energy-from-waste (EfW) facilities.

Covanta said the partnership will help the company increase the amount of metals recycled from its facilities. In 2011 Covanta’s 41 facilities recycled more than 400,000 tons of ferrous and more than 15,000 tons of non-ferrous metal.

The agreement will help Covanta implement new non-ferrous systems at company facilities that currently do not have them and enhance systems that are already in place.

"We are excited to be forming this strategic alliance with Steinert US to recover and recycle more metal from our EfW facilities," said Seth Myones, Covanta Americas president. "This is the first step in our plan to significantly increase non-ferrous metal recovery. By partnering with a world-class expert like Steinert, we can get the job done faster and achieve efficiencies throughout our non-ferrous recovery systems."
