Advanced Disposal Services Inc. is fighting in court a Vermont government decision to close its Moretown landfill by April 15.
The Ponte Vedra, Fla.-based Advanced Disposal, doing business as MLI, is asking the Environmental Court to allow it to continue operations under existing certification from the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources (ANR). The agency ordered MLI to cease all waste acceptance operation, the company said in a news release.
The company said it hopes to present at a hearing some facts about the facility that haven’t been considered, including more than $1 million in infrastructure and operational improvements made to the site by Advanced Disposal since last September; ANR’s reliance on unsubstantiated analysis of odor complaints and ground water issues; and potential layoffs and lost revenue to the community of more than $500,000 annually.
