The city of Memphis will be seeking bids for refuse collection over the next few weeks and they may also add picking up recyclables to their contract this time around. The additional pick-up could cost residents about $40 annually, based on past quotes for the service.

At a Feb. 17 city council meeting, Mayor Larry Wilson presented a memo outlining the status of the current refuse contract and the options for a new one.

He stated that the city’s five-year-old contract with Waste Management will expire on June 30 and new bids, open to all refuse collection agencies in the area, should be sought soon.
