Advanced Disposal Services Inc. has opened a landfill gas-to-energy (LFGTE) operation at its Pecan Row Landfill in Valdosta, Ga., in partnership with two energy firms.

The Ponte Vedra, Fla.-based Advanced Disposal partnered with Energy Systems Group to design, build, own and operate the LFGTE facility, which they expect to generate 4.8 megawatts of electricity, according to a news release.

Green Power EMC, a non-profit corporation comprising 38 Georgia electric cooperatives, will purchase the power produced from the landfill operation through a long-term power purchase agreement.

“This landfill gas resource will provide a long-term source of green, renewable electricity for the citizens of Georgia and fosters a collaborative partnership among key stakeholders in the field of electricity,” said Gerald Allen, Advanced Disposal vice president of landfills.
