Waste Management Inc. has opened its compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling station in Mesa, Ariz., and debuted its new fleet of 26 CNG-powered waste collection vehicles to serve the area.

The new fleet will serve the city of Chandler from Waste Management’s San Tan Hauling and Transfer Station site, the Houston-based company said in a news release. The Clean N’ Green public fueling station was built with funding help from the Kent, Wash.-based fuel distributor PetroCard Inc.

Waste Management currently operates 30 CNG vehicles in Arizona and said it will add more in 2013. The company operates nearly 1,700 CNG and liquefied natural gas (LNG) vehicles overall.

Waste Management of Arizona provides waste and recycling services to almost  500,000 residential and commercial customers in the state.
