Republic Adds CNG Waste Vehicles in Texas, Pennsylvania

Republic Services Inc. has added compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles to its waste and recycling fleets in York, Pa., and Austin, Texas.

The Phoenix-based Republic said in a news release it is adding 65 CNG vehicles in York and four in Austin.

In York the new natural gas vehicles are replacing two-thirds of York’s current diesel fleet. The truck chassis are built by Autocar and the engines by Cummins Westport.
Republic partnered with Clean Energy Fuels Corp. to construct a CNG fueling station in York.  Republic’s York Waste division will be the largest central Pennsylvania operation using CNG fuel exclusively for all of its vehicles.

Republic serves more than 120,000 residential customers and 7,000 commercial and industrial customers in York, Lancaster, Dauphin, Cumberland and Adams counties.
In Austin Republic added four CNG vehicles to serve on routes in the greater Austin area.

Austin has an existing natural gas fueling infrastructure, and Republic will consider adding fueling stations to expand the reach of its natural gas powered fleet.

In 2012, Republic plans to add 548 natural gas vehicles (NGV), or 65 percent of its total truck purchase, to 18 facilities at various locations. More than 300 of the total NGVs will be added in the second half of the year. It will bring the company’s alternative-fuel vehicle total to more than 1,100 vehicles.
