Republic Services Inc. has deployed 79 compressed natural gas (CNG) waste and recycling trucks to serve greater Indianapolis.

The Phoenix-based Republic said in a news release that it also installed two natural gas fueling stations to support its new CNG fleet in Indianapolis. The new fleet replaces older, diesel-powered trucks.

Republic serves more than 205,000 residential and about 12,000 commercial and industrial customers throughout central Indiana. It employs more than 350 in the region.

The company serves several municipalities in the area, including the cities of Carmel, Indianapolis, Lawrence and Noblesville, as well as the towns of Atlanta, Cicero, Sheridan, Speedway and Whiteland.

Republic provides waste and recycling services to the Bankers Life Fieldhouse, Indiana Convention Center, Indiana Pacers Sports & Entertainment, Indianapolis Colts, Klipsch Music Center and Lucas Oil Stadium. The company was the primary waste and recycling hauler for Super Bowl XLVI.

In the next year 70 percent of Republic’s fleet in the Indianapolis will be powered by CNG, said Travis Simpson, area president for the company.

About 50 percent of the vehicles Republic purchased in 2013 are powered by CNG.
