Republic Services Inc. has added 67 compressed natural gas (CNG) solid waste and recycling trucks to serve customers in southern New Jersey and Philadelphia.
The Phoenix-based Republic said in a news release said that it also established a CNG fueling station in Mount Laurel, N.J., to support its new fleet, which replaced older, diesel-powered trucks.
Republic employs 200 at its Mount Laurel operation and serves more than 78,000 residential and 8,000 commercial customers in the New Jersey counties of Burlington, Camden and Gloucester, and in Philadelphia County, Pa. The company provides service to several municipalities in the area, including Cherry Hill Township, Gloucester Township, Willingboro Township, Mount Laurel Township, Pemberton Township, Delran Township and Merchantville Borough.
Three out of four trucks in its local area fleet will be powered by natural gas at the end of 2013, said Michael Murphy, Republic general manager.
