Synagro Opens Composting Unit in Florida

Synagro Technologies Inc. has opened a composting facility in southwest Florida.

The Baltimore-based Synagro said in a news release that it completed construction of a $4.3 million organics recycling center in Punta Gorda in Florida’s Charlotte County. The facility will convert biosolids and green waste into Class AA compost.

“This new recycling facility helps to meet the region’s growing demand for a sustainable solution to the challenges of managing organic residuals,” said Eric Zimmer, Synagro president and CEO.

The facility has a 20-year lease agreement with the Charlotte County Public Works. It is located at a landfill in the county and will help divert waste from the landfill.

The center will use aerobic composting to recycle organics.

The Class AA soil amendment will used locally. It includes 100-percent recycling of the organic material. Synargro markets the compost under the name AllGro.

Synagro currently operates three similar composting facilities.
