Hormel’s Century Foods Achieves Zero Waste to Landfill

Article-Hormel’s Century Foods Achieves Zero Waste to Landfill

Hormel Foods Corp.’s Century Foods International has achieved a zero waste to landfill status at its four locations.

Century Foods, Sparta, Wis., which handles food manufacturing and packaging, reached a recycling rate of 93 percent at its plants.  Austin, Minn.-based parent Hormel Foods selected Century as its 2013 Environmental Sustainability Best of the Best champion, according to a news release.

Employees combined a number of efforts to achieve the results, such as employee awareness, partnerships with buyers, vendors and local groups, and new in-plant processes.

Hormel said in 2013 entries to the competition throughout the company resulted in a reduction of more than 1,000 tons of solid waste.
