Cleveland Reworks City Trash Pickup

Cleveland – Cleveland officials say they will continue to service city trash bins after residents complained about proposed cutbacks. Late last year, Mayor Jane Campbell announced plans to turn over a majority of the city’s 1,300 trash cans to private businesses and cut all but four workers who serviced the cans because of the city’s $61 million budget deficit. After local businesses agreed to pay for collection for only 97 of the cans – seven percent of the total – city officials decided to have residential waste crews tend to the remaining receptacles.
