More than half of all trash generated in Boulder homes was diverted — either recycled or composted — in 2013, but just 28 percent of commercial and industrial waste was.

For years, commercial recycling has lagged behind the residential sector.

Boulder's Zero Waste Strategy includes a recommendation that the City Council adopt an ordinance requiring all businesses to recycle and requiring that all food-related businesses, such as grocery stores and restaurants, be required to compost as well.
