Philadelphia Debuts Tool for Real-Time Trash Collection Updates

This summer Philadelphia residents had to deal with trash delays amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, the Philadelphia Streets Department has a new tool called StreetSmartPHL that provides residents with up-to-the-moment updates on trash collection. The new GPS system shows the public pickup in real-time and allows for a check of every truck.

The city is seeing about 25 percent higher trash volumes than prior to the pandemic, which is approximately 3,000 more tons per week.

StreetSmartPHL will go into effect on Oct. 1, 2020.
