El Paso, Texas Recycle Bins Dumped into Trash Truck

Over the past month, El Paso residents have noticed that both recycling and trash bins are being collected by the same truck.

When one of the residents approached the driver, they were told it was because the recycling in the area was too contaminated.

Juan Delgado resident of El Paso's Sunset Heights said, "I was extremely frustrated, you have to spend time doing it, you have to go through a class in order to get the bin."

It is protocol for the trash truck drivers to throw the recycling in the trash truck if there is too much contamination. If that happens, first the recycling bin will be tagged and then the resident will be contacted by code enforcement. Nicholas Ybarra with the City of El Paso's Environmental Services Department said this situation was an isolated incident.
