After five years of being abandoned, the Central Waste Landfill located in Smith Township, Ohio, will close by November 2018. The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency and the Mahoning County Health Department are leading and overseeing the closure process.

The closure process will begin this fall or winter, and once the landfill is officially closed, it will be routinely checked twice a year instead of twice a month.
