New Hanover County is moving forward with a plan to facilitate recycling of construction and demolition debris—a move that is expected to save more than five years’ worth of space in the county landfill over a 20-year period.
Commissioners voted 4-1 Monday to request proposals for the service, which would divert as much as 60,000 tons of C&D debris that can be recycled, such as lumber, asphalt shingles, scrap metal and bricks.
