Mesa police and fire crews were responding to a report that several military mortars were dropped off at a recycling plant in the far southeast Valley on Wednesday morning.
Firefighters and members of the Mesa police bomb squad were called to the recycling business near Meridian and Germann roads before 10 a.m. Wednesday after employees there reported they had received a shipment that contained artillery rounds, several of which appeared to be live, said Deputy Chief Forrest Smith, a Mesa fire spokesman.
Commercial Metals Company and its surrounding area near Germann and Meridian roads were evacuated.
