Edmonton’s waste expertise could be exported to a growing city in central China, but city’s taxpayers will have to put up $2 million in upfront costs.
In 2012, the city created a standalone company, Waste RE solutions, with the goal of selling Edmonton’s expertise in handling garbage to the world. Much like EPCOR, Edmonton is the sole shareholder in the company, but there are independent board members to provide advice.
A shareholder briefing, obtained exclusively by Metro, details a plan to help construct a waste management facility in Lichuan, China that would be the company’s first major project.
