TerraCycle, Staples Partner on Zero Waste Recycling Boxes

Article-TerraCycle, Staples Partner on Zero Waste Recycling Boxes

TerraCycle and Staples Canada Inc. are partnering to offer Canadians a zero waste recycling option for household and office waste.

Trenton, N.J.-based TerraCycle is offering a system in which Canadians can recycle most items through its Zero Waste Boxes, which are sold online through the Richmond Hill, Ontario-based Staples Canada Inc.

Zero Waste Boxes are labeled either by stream (batteries, light bulbs, for example) or by room (break room waste, bathroom waste). Consumers collect the waste based on stream and mail it to TerraCycle with the prepaid shipping label printed on each box. The waste then gets sent to a processing plant to be recycled into benches, bicycle racks, watering cans and other items.

“We want to eliminate the whole concept of waste,” said Tom Szaky, TerraCycle founder and CEO, “and this program brings us one step closer, helping people to understand the value in what they would normally throw in the garbage.”
