Republic Services Buys Iowa Recycling Firm City Carton

Republic Services Inc. has purchased Iowa City, Iowa-based City Carton Recycling for an undisclosed amount.

The Phoenix-based Republic acquired City Carton, which provides recycling services including computer destruction, carton recycling and sustainability audits for Iowa and the Midwest.

“City Carton’s team and platform further positions Republic for growth in our core service offerings, as well as expansion in eastern Iowa,” said Russ Knocke, Republic’s field communications director, said in an email.

City Carton will continue to provide curbside recycling.

Knocke said Republic will offer the same services as City Carton, as well as some expanded services. Republic will continue to employ 120 people at seven former City Carton facilities in eastern Iowa.
