DeKalb County intends to greatly increase recycling at its schools under a partnership between the county government and the school system.

The agreement calls for the DeKalb County Sanitation Division to provide waste collection and disposal services, and for the school system to separate recyclables from garbage.

At least 40 percent of materials generated in the school system are able to be recycled, according to the intergovernmental agreement approved by the DeKalb Commission in January. The effort is meant to reduce the amount of waste disposed of at the county’s Seminole Road Landfill.
