Article-Casella, Aria Partner on Maine Landfill Gas-to-Energy Unit

Casella Waste Systems Inc. and Aria Energy are partnering to establish a landfill gas-to-energy (LFGTE) operation at the Juniper Ridge Landfill that Casella operates in Old Town, Maine.

Construction of the 4.8 megawatt facility at the state-owned landfill should begin in early 2016, with operations projected to start in 2017, according to a news release from the Rutland, Vt.-based Casella and the Novi, Mich.-based renewable energy company Aria.

The companies expect the facility to supply power for more than 4,800 homes. They will partner on the development, construction and operation of the project.

Aria handles operations and maintenance for three current Casella LFGTE systems: a 6.4-megawatt facility in Morrisonville, N.Y.; an 8-megawatt operation in Angelica, N.Y.; and an 8 megawatt unit in Newport, Vt.
