Lean manufacturing is the focus of Mack Truck's newest completed renovation at its Lehigh Valley Operations plant in Pennsylvania.
The 164-acre facility received an $84 million facelift with continuous improvement in mind, which included the implementation of "pull systems, value stream mapping, fishbone factory layouts, visualization, and just-in-time inventory." The plan also included expanding the facility to 1 million square feet, up from 300,000 square feet.
The project is a culmination of efforts that began in August 2015. The infrastructure upgrade was due in part to support the manufacturing of Mack's LR Electric refuse model.
