Silver Spring, Md. -- Nominations are due March 28 for the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) Excellence Awards. The awards commend work that promotes economically and environmentally sound solid waste management. Judging criteria includes environmental compliance, program efficiency, effectiveness, safety and innovation.

Award categories are solid waste collection; communication; composting programs; landfill gas control; landfill gas utilization; landfill management; marketing; public education; recycling programs; integrated solid waste management systems; special waste management; transfer station management; and waste-to-energy systems.
