With so many tires on the market, haulers might have a difficult time choosing the best product to fit their particular needs.

Following is a sampling of the tires available in today's market.

BF Goodrich, Greenville, S.C., manufactures the commercial truck tire model ST565, which features V-shape grooves for resistance to stone retention, sidewall protection for retreadability and protector ply for resistance to penetrating objects. The ST565 also has shoulder design with offset blocks for improved off-road traction, according to the company.

Continental General Tires Inc., Charlotte, N.C., offers the Continental HTC model for steer and trailer positions in on/off-highway service. The HTC has cut- and tear-resistant tread compound, thick undertread to resist casing penetration and damage to multiple retreads, and a multi-service tread pattern for short haul service.

Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., Akron, Ohio, introduces the G286 Heavy Service Steer (HSS) tire model. The tire handles loads of up to 10,200 pounds per tire, or 20,400 pounds per axle, at 130 pounds per square inch (psi). According to the company, the rubber compounds and the 22/32 of an inch tread design help to resist tire chipping, chunking and rib tear. The G286 is available in 315/80R22.5 and is rated for load range L. Because of the heavy loads, the tire has a maximum speed of 55 miles per hour (mph).

Hercules Tire and Rubber Co., Findlay, Ohio, is an international standards organization (ISO) 9002 manufacturer. The company produces precure and mold cure tread compounds and retreading materials for the transportation industry. The Waste Hauler Rib and Waste Hauler Lug precure product lines fit on/off-road and short haul waste applications.

Inovex Industries, Sterling, Va., produces the Ride-On Tire Protection System (TPS), which prevents slow leaks and seal punctures. Ride-On TPS absorbs heat from the tread surface and conducts it to the thinner sidewalls, which are more effective at dissipating heat, according to the company.

Michelin North America Inc., Greenville, S.C., introduces four commercial truck tires. The Wide Base XZY features rectangular bead bundles, which strap the tire to the wheel, as well as provide stability and cooler-running, longer-lasting sidewalls, according to the company. The XZY-1S is designed for on/off-road applications and is rated at 10,000 pounds per single tire at a maximum speed of 55 mph.

The XZY-2 all-wheel-position tire offers a groove design and shoulder feature allowing traction and steering capabilities in on/off-road conditions. The XDY-2 drive tire has deeper shoulder features for traction in soft soil conditions.

Bridgestone/Firestone Inc. Off-Road, Nashville, Tenn., introduces the size 315/80R22.5 tire model R296, which has 4-belt construction to provide for performance and retreadability. The deep rib design is 23/32 of an inch from the tread depth to the base of the groove. The R296 also has stone rejecter platforms to help prevent belt-damaging stones from lodging in the grooves.

SETCO, Idabel, Okla., manufactures and distributes a product line of solid tire and rim assemblies called the Junk Yard Dog. The first in this line is the Classic, a durable and long-lasting tire, according to the company. The Soft Ride assembly features dual rubber compound for a cushioned ride. The Jelly Belly assembly has a narrow rim and dual rubber compounds.

T.Y. Cushion Tires, Industry, Calif., introduces its new cushion tire for transfer station equipment front end loaders, which come in several sizes. The company guarantees that the tires will not chip, crack, peal or spin on the wheel.

Yokohama Tire Corp., Fullerton, Calif., introduces the model Y773 tire, which is available in 315/80R22.5. The tire is ply rated to 22 ply and 10,000 pounds per tire load rating at 55 mph and at 135 pounds per square inch (psi).
