PepsiCo announced that it is launching a campaign to push the U.S. recycling rate for used beverage cans to 50 percent by 2018.

The goal was developed after consultations with Boston-based Walden Asset Management and San Francisco-based As You Sow. As part of its effort to help reach the 50 percent mark, the soda company intends to "partner with its U.S. bottlers, communities, suppliers, governmental entities and non-governmental organizations in support of innovative efforts to encourage increased recycling," according to a press release.
