IESI-BFC and Advanced Disposal Services among companies making big purchases.

Toronto-based IESI-BFC Ltd. has completed its purchase of Burlington, Ontario, Canada-based Waste Services. The combined company will continue under the IESI-BFC name and will be headquartered in Toronto.
The firm now will have more than 6,000 employees serving commercial, industrial and residential customers in six Canadian provinces, 11 states and the District of Columbia.
Keith Carrigan, IESI-BFC's current vice chairman and CEO, will lead the combined company. Additionally, Thomas Cowee, vice president and chief financial officer of IESI-BFC, will continue to serve in those positions.
In November, IESI-BFC reached an agreement to purchase Waste Services. According to the terms of the agreement, Waste Service stockholders received 0.5833 shares of IESI-BFC stock for each Waste Service share they owned.
In other transaction news:
Jacksonville, Fla.-based Advanced Disposal Services Inc. has completed its purchase of Accurate Waste Systems, a provider of waste collection services to businesses in Polk County, Fla. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
The purchase marks Advanced Disposal's second acquisition in central Florida in recent months. In March, the company bought Trash Taxi.
"Adding Accurate Waste Systems to our solid waste and recycling team here in Florida is another way for Advanced Disposal to grow our Florida footprint and better position the company to respond quickly and effectively as the economy rebounds," said Advanced Disposal's Dave Lavender, president of the company's Florida division, in a press release. "Customers can be assured they will continue to receive the most responsive and environmentally responsible solid waste and recycling services possible."
Longwood, Fla.-based Waste Pro USA announced that it has acquired Southern Waste Disposal of Meridian, Miss., and Wyatt & Bowman Waste Container of Asheville, N.C. Terms of the acquisitions were not disclosed.
According to its website, Southern Waste Disposal provides hauling, container and landfill services to commercial and residential customers in east central Mississippi and west central Alabama. Wyatt & Bowman is a waste container firm servicing the Asheville, N.C., area.
San Diego-based enXco has purchased Beacon Landfill Gas Holdings LLC, a company whose assets include two landfill gas-to-energy (LFGTE) facilities located in western Pennsylvania. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The LFGTE facilities are located at the Imperial and Greentree landfills, operated by Republic Services and Veolia ES Solid Waste, respectively. The facilities produce a total of 50 megawatts of electricity.
"The acquisition of facilities that process landfill gas that can be consumed in generating plants complements enXco's mission to grow a portfolio of renewable generating assets for EDF Energies Nouvelles [enXco's parent company] in North America," said Tristan Grimbert, president & CEO of enXco, in a press release. "We are proud to make the Beacon projects our first entry into the North American LFG sector and hope to build on this success with the addition of LFG generating plants, which together with wind and solar round out our portfolio of assets."
