Top items collected include cigarette butts, food wrappers and plastic beverage bottles.

A new report from Ocean Conservancy shows just how much trash beach visitors are leaving behind in California. Researchers tracked the amount of trash removed from beaches in a 24-hour period -- in California alone, the items collected weighed an astonishing 840,000 pounds.
