As organizations, companies, nonprofits and individuals around the globe prepare to celebrate Earth Day on April 22, Denis Hayes, the principal national organizer of the first Earth Day in 1970, is calling for an end to plastic pollution.

It’s no secret that the world has a plastic pollution problem, and there’s no better day to ramp up waste reduction and recycling efforts than Earth Day.

This year, a range of companies and nonprofits across the globe are going green via events and campaigns that are dedicated to bettering the environment, increasing the amount of materials that are being recycling and reducing the amount of waste being sent to landfills.

In this gallery, Waste360 has rounded up some Earth Day events and campaigns taking place throughout the month of April.
