Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) has made it easy for employees to recycle their plastic bottles and aluminum cans, and that effort has helped produce thousands of t-shirts and other products.
Since Dewa introduced smart machines in some of its buildings, its employees have recycled around 221,900 plastic bottles and aluminum cans which produced over 11,600 t-shirts and other items.
When employees use the machines, they are also awarded points and are entered into a raffle to win monthly prizes.
“Placing great importance on environmental sustainability across all (our) projects in line with (our) vision to become a globally leading sustainable innovative corporation committed to achieving Net Zero by 2050.
The initiative is also in line with Dewa’s circular economy strategy and Dubai Integrated Waste Management Strategy 2021-2041, which seeks to encourage innovation in waste management and recycling as well as converting waste to energy, in addition to providing practical solutions to environmental challenges.
“Protecting the environment is a top priority for Dewa, which aims, during the Year of Sustainability, to increase awareness among employees and customers on the need to care for the environment, preserve natural resources, and adopt sustainable practices at home and in the workplace,” said Dewa in a statement.
