Compiled by the Waste Age staff

Robert G. Simpson, chief financial officer (CFO) of Waste Management, will retire, effective Sept. 30, 2011. In a press release, Waste Management said that company officials had been “anticipating that [Simpson] wanted to retire” and have therefore “been conducting a search for a new CFO.”

The company “expects that the position will be filled before [Simpson’s] Sept. 30 retirement in order to make an orderly transition,” the release says.

“Bob has played a pivotal role in the success of the company,” said Waste Management CEO David Steiner in a statement. “He has had a steady hand on our financial affairs and operations and has helped us build the strategy we are pursuing today. We value his years of service, his skill and his wit. We’ll miss him and wish him well in retirement.”
