Charlotte WTE Facility in Final Stages of Development

Blue Sphere Corp.’s waste-to-energy facility under construction in Charlotte, N.C. is nearing completion.

In 2014, the Company entered into a joint venture to develop, construct and operate a $27 million biogas facility in Charlotte under the management of a third party. In recent weeks, the joint venture's EPC contractor, Auspark LLC, issued a report stating that the facility is currently going through the testing phases needed for commissioning the CHPs (engines) and a team of experienced engineers arrived from Italy to "White Test" the equipment and the components necessary for the facility to start generating electricity.

The "White Test" is performed without feeding any waste into the system to ensure that the respective components are properly operating, receiving electricity and connected to the controlling system. The "White Test" process is designed to test all of the components of the facility.

"We are very excited for the Charlotte facility to be entering its final stages of development. We look forward to seeing this amazing facility become operational. We will release a similar update about our Rhode Island facility as well as other updates shortly," Blue Sphere CEO Shlomi Palas said in a statement.

The Charlotte project is one of several biogas facilities that Blue Sphere is developing.

In 2015, it began construction of a $19 million waste-to-energy project in Johnston, R.I. That facility will produce 3.2 megawatts of energy from food waste. The electricity will be sold to NG to provide power for local homes and businesses.

Later that year, it secured financing of $3 million for future projects and acquisitions, including in the United States.
