Ventura County Raises Tipping Fees by 500 Percent

Ventura County, Calif. – To generate approximately $2 million per year in revenue, the county will increase tipping fees at its Simi Valley landfill by 500 percent this July. Despite objections from several cities, county officials voted to unanimously raise rates from 30 cents per ton to $1.95 per ton. Next, county supervisors will seek approval from Houston-based Waste Management, which is the landfill’s operator. Currently, 35 million tons of refuse is unloaded at the landfill and approximately 30 percent comes from outside the county, according to news sources.
