A newly introduced bill seeks to expand on a long-standing general ban against hauling radioactive waste into Kentucky for disposal.

It appears to be in response to the dumping of radioactive oil and gas drilling waste from West Virginia that state officials have said occurred at landfills in Greenup and Estill counties.

House Bill 563,  sponsored by Rep. Cluster Howard, a Democrat from Jackson, Ky. who represents Estill County, adds descriptive language to an existing ban. It would specify that such wastes are banned whether they are naturally occurring or are the result of processing.
