Decatur, Ill., Recycling Renewed by Single-Stream Program

Before single-stream was implemented in 2011, fewer than 12 percent of Decatur residents regularly recycled.

Since the single-stream service has become available, 57 percent of the households have recycling bins, according to the city of Decatur.

“Our goal was 30 percent by 2020,” said Billy Tyus, Assistant City Manager. “We are still getting cart requests one or two a day.”
