The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Washington, D.C., has introduced new methods for at-home sharps users to safely dispose of needles. Developed with the Coalition for Safe Community Needle Disposal, the agency now recommends disposal options such as: drop box or supervised collection sites, mail-back programs, syringe exchange programs (www.nasen.org), and at-home needle destruction devices.
