Record Year for Recycling in Sioux Falls

Sioux Falls had a record year for recycling in 2014.

Almost a quarter of what trash collectors in the city hauled off last year was sent to recyclers rather than landfills.

The 23.5 percent recycling rate is the highest since the city started monitoring it in 2008 and exceeded the goal officials set for the year of 21.8 percent.

At a press conference Thursday, city officials credited the public and a heightened focus on sustainability by public works employees.
