Raven Outsmarts Locked Waste Bin in Alaska

The raven tried to open the locked waste bin on its own and eventually unlatched the bin’s handle to open the bin and dig for food.

In Haines, Alaska, Randa Szymanski and her husband purchased a locked waste bin in an effort to keep what they thought was a bear out of their trash bin. After keeping a close eye on the bin, the couple finally caught the culprit in action and discovered that the animal causing the ruckus was actually a raven.

The raven tried to open the locked waste bin on its own and eventually unlatched the bin’s handle to open the bin and dig for food.

Randa Szymanski and her husband thought that bears were getting into their trash cans. This was an understandable assumption given that they live in Haines, Alaska, where foraging bears are a part of life. So imagine the Szymanskis' surprise when they discovered it was an industrious raven causing the ruckus.
