For years, Sonoco Recycling, LLC has provided the city of Lynchburg, Va., with free hauling services for recyclables. But now, under a new agreement, the city will begin paying a fee for those hauling services.
The new 12-month amendment, which was finalized last week, states that Sonoco will charge the city a flat rate of $52.75 for each recycling container that’s picked up, delivered to its Madison Heights recycling facility and returned to its original location. The pricing for the services will be reevaluated on February 28 “for market fluctuations and/or fuel prices.”
The News & Advance has more information:
After several years of the city’s recycling being hauled for free, Lynchburg will begin paying for the service under an agreement with its existing recycling service provider that begins this month.
Despite the change, the number of recycling bins available and drop-off sites will remain unchanged.
The city has seven drop-off sites for recyclable materials that include mixed paper, cardboard, aluminum and plastic containers. Under a three-year supplier agreement that began in September 2013, Sonoco Recycling, LLC, which has a facility in Madison Heights, picked up the city’s recycling at no cost to the city.
