Killeen, Texas, Considering Outsourcing Trash Collection to Private Company

Even though the city of Killeen, Texas, has better numbers than other cities that have already outsourced their trash collection to private companies, the Killeen City Council wants to see a direct comparison between outsourcing the service and the city’s current collection system.

The City Council has asked the city staff to start accepting bids for trash collection so that it can look closely at the details of the proposals to make the best decision for the city.

Killeen is looking into the possibility of outsourcing the solid waste department to a private company.

City manager Ron Olson has been comparing Killeen to cities that have already outsourced to private companies and when he presented the results to the city council, Killeen had the better numbers.

"Our first obligation is to our taxpayers the people who are paying the bills. We need to make sure they're getting the best service for the best price they can," said Olson.
