Debris Burned for Hours at Marina Recycling Facility

Material from a recycling facility on Del Monte Boulevard caught fire Saturday night and burned for more than five hours, fire officials said Sunday.

The Marina, Presidio of Monterey, North County and Monterey Regional Fire departments encountered a large cloud of smoke coming from the Monterey Regional Waste Management District's Material Recycling Facility about 10 p.m. Saturday.

It took firefighters about five hours and 90,000 gallons of water to cool off the interior of the facility, and a large landfill tractor to remove the burning debris from inside the structure.
