Recyclebank and Waste Management Inc. will be providing the Recyclebank recycling rewards program to Fort Worth, Texas.

Both the New York-based Recyclebank and Houston-based Waste Management were represented in Fort Worth to kick off the program, which rewards people for recycling with discounts and deals from local and national businesses.

The city said in a news release that nothing will change with collections for the current recycling program.

Fort Worth now diverts from landfills about 23 percent of the material collected, through blue recycling carts and weekly yard waste collections. The city has a recycling goal of 40 percent.

“The City of Fort Worth is committed to being greener, and by launching Recyclebank's rewards-for-recycling program, we're taking our environmental efforts to a whole new level," said Mayor Betsy Price.
