Northfield, N.J., Moves to Outsource Trash Collection

City Council introduced an ordinance Tuesday night to contract with the Atlantic County Utilities Authority for five years of trash pickup.

City Council President Jim Travagline said the move will result in a net savings of about $90,000 a year.

But Dave Tucker of the Government Workers Union in Hammonton, who has filed state union charges to stop the outsourcing, said the city has greatly overestimated potential savings.
