Medina County's New Recycling Plan Up for Hot Debate as City Officials Express Distrust

The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency frowns on the local power struggle that is going on over Medina County's future recycling plans, according to EPA solid waste planner Christopher Germain.

"It is our sincere preference to see the Medina County Solid Waste District and local communities engage in open dialogue and come to a mutually agreeable solution that keeps the process local," Germain wrote Monday in an email to county and city officials.

The next day, city officials, Mayor Dennis Hanwell, Service Director Nino Piccolli and several council members announced they oppose ratification of the county's new solid waste plan and want to create a curbside recycling program in the city.
