Progressive Opens C&D Waste Reduction Unit in Ontario

Progressive Waste Solutions Ltd. has opened a waste reduction facility in Vaughan, Ontario, to reduce construction and demolition (C&D) waste going to landfills.

The Vaughan-based company said in a news release the waste reduction facility cost $14 million.

The Vaughan-based company said in a news release the waste reduction facility cost $14 million.  The 10-acre facility will redirect up to 85 percent of the waste it receives. It creates more than 50 jobs.

The new facility can process about 20 percent of the greater Toronto area’s nearly 500,000 metric tons of C&D waste annually. The wood recovered at the facility will be converted into fuel.

While Ontario residents have a 46-percent recycling rate, industrial and commercial operations fall well below that, the company said.
