PyroGenesis Canada Inc. has reached an agreement with an appliance recycler to use its plasma arc destruction system.

The Montreal-based PyroGenesis said in a news release that it will provide an unidentified Canadian refrigerator and freezer recycler with equipment and services for PyroGenesis’ steam plasma arc destruction system (SPARC). The recycler will commercialize the technology exclusively within Canada.

The agreement, which totals $1.5 million, includes several options for follow-on service contracts. PyroGenesis expects all agreements to be executed this year.

PyroGenesis, which makes plasma waste-to-energy systems and plasma torch products, said the SPARC system allows clients to safely destroy ozone-depleting substances. The system can achieve 10 times greater destruction efficiency compared with current requirements.
