The Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) has named Sara Bixby as its new deputy executive director.
The Silver Spring, Md.-based association said Bixby, the director of the South Central Iowa Solid Waste Agency for the past 10 years, will take on the position of deputy executive director for administration, information technology and financial management beginning in June, according to a SWANA news release.
Bixby has worked in solid waste as a consultant and government official since the early 1990s. She is a past president of SWANA.
"Sara's excellent experience in managing real-world solid waste management operations will help SWANA provide more valuable programs and services to our members,” said John Skinner, executive director and CEO of SWANA.
Bixby said of her new role, "This is a great opportunity for me to work with and for an organization that I believe in; with and for people that I have long admired. I am excited to continue my involvement with SWANA in a new way."
SWANA’s previous deputy executive director, Lori Scozzafava, left the association last fall and recently became director of the U.S. Composting Council.
