Wheatfield, N.Y., Residents File Notice of Claim Against Town for $960M

The residents are claiming that chemicals from the site leaked onto their properties, causing them to become ill.

Sixteen residents who reside near the old Nash Road Landfill in Wheatfield, N.Y., have filed a notice of claim for $960 million against the town after chemicals from the site supposedly leaked onto their properties, causing them to become ill.

The residents have one year to decide if they want to move forward with a lawsuit against the Town of Wheatfield.

Sixteen Niagara County residents who live near the old Nash Road Landfill in Wheatfield filed a notice of claim Monday against the town. Wheatfield Town Supervisor Robert Cliffe says each of the residents are asking for $60 million; or $960 million total.

According to the complaint, residents living near the old landfill believe chemicals from the site leaked on to their property. The homeowners say they conducted independent testing last July which detected a powdery residue.
