Waste Management To Offset Greenhouse Gas at Super Bowl

Lynn Schenkman

Houston -- Waste Management Inc. has announced it will donate 85,000 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) equivalent emission credits to Houston, which the company says will more than offset the greenhouse gas impact of the Super Bowl. The CO2 donations will come from the Bluebonnet landfill in Harris County, Texas. EMCON/OWT, Baton Rouge, La., has been selected to quantify Waste Management’s methane destruction activities and verify the company meets standards for emission offsets. These emission offsets are intended to ensure the Super Bowl will not harm the climate.
